Galati steel integral to new bridge over the Danube
- Galati steelmakers will provide the core to one of Romania’s most important development projects
- The Plant will deliver special designed solutions to ensure the project’s success
LIBERTY Galați announces that it has started to make steel deliveries for the bridge under construction in Brăila, the most important infrastucture project currently underway in Romania. The steel company will supply Fincantieri Infrastructure with the heavy plates which will be used to build the segments of the bridge deck, an operation taking place at Vard Shipyard in Braila.
“This bridge will last for many years and my colleagues‘ skill and passion will add strength and value to a project which will help the whole country. We are proud to be supplier to this project which is so important for Romania. We are also determined to deliver the technical, logistical and commercial solutions our client expects”, Bogdan Grecu, the CEO of LIBERTY Galati, commented.
“The bridge is of a great importance to us and to the wider community. As such, we have shown openness and flexibility as regards our customer’s specific requirements. That flexibility includes succesfully shrinking our rolling times down to 2 – 4 weeks, from the usual 6 – 8 weeks, as a result of prioritizing this project through the whole production cycle”, stated Cristina Șerbănoiu, Head of Customer Service team, LIBERTY Galați.
The bridge across Danube in Braila county will be 1,974 meters long and will be built in association by Astaldi and IHI Infrastructure Systems companies. The project value is estimated to be 500 million Euros.
The heavy plate produced in Galați was also used for the construction of Osman Gazi bidge, inaugurated in 2016, which crosses the Izmit Bay. At more than 2,600 metres long it is considered the sixth longest in the world in terms of the span between its pillars.
